  We had an appointment with Dr. Helgerson on 11/15 to get the results of my husband's Pulmonary test. Dr. Helgerson entered the examining room at least a half hour late, No apology. He proceeded to rapidly tell us that my husband has emphysema. During this time he said my husband did not respond to a bronchialdialator (sp?) during his testing. He drew us a picture-as he quickly described emphysema in general terms, not as it specifically relates to my husband's condition. I felt very uncomfortable trying to ask questions regarding, what to me, is a a very serious diagnosis, as he gave the impression he didn't have time. He never suggested that a chest x-ray would be in order, or that my husband should be seen by a Pulmonary specialist. At the end of the 10 minutes he allowed us, he prescribed a bronchialdialator even though earlier he said there had been no response to this during the pulmonary testing. He also suggested that a nurse do a blood test to see if there were any genetic cause-despite the fact that there is a history of heavy smoking in my husband's past. Dr. Helgerson told us that if it were genetic, there was a treatment though it was very expensive Prior to leaving, we were not asked if we had any questions. Since that visit, we have gotten a referral to a specialist who has ordered a chest xray and will meet with us after the xray is done. We have also moved my husband to another family practice. The total experience felt like we were on an assembly line, even the waiting room is unwelcoming.
